Limit 8, Intermediate/Advanced: New Route, Atwood-Higgins-Ryder Beach Loop, Wellfleet/Truro

This new-to-us route winds through various Wellfleet and Truro environments with traces of Colonial settlement, fishing heritage, and the rise of seaside tourism.
—Prerequisite: Instructional clinic, at least 3 CCNW walks of at least 3 miles, & ability to walk for 3.5 miles at a moderate pace over uneven terrain and with infrequent stops
—Distance: 3.5 miles
—Pace: Moderate to fast, with only occasional stops.
—Terrain: Mostly hard pack, several hills, 3/4 mile sand, and one long, very steep descent.
—Limit 8. Please do not sign up if you see the Closed sign or if walk has reached its limit.
—Limit 1 walk per day and 3 RSVPs per week (Sunday to Saturday) to give others the chance to walk. If you are already holding 3 RSVPs for the week of this walk, please do not sign up.
—No facilities. Bring tissue in a plastic bag for a bio break.
—Wear your CCNW ID badge
—Mosquitoes are getting active; consider repellent.
—Kindly update your RSVP at least 24 hours in advance of walk start time if your plans change. This allows the host to plan and accommodate other walkers.
This walk is authorized under a National Park Service Special Use Permit.
Walk may be cancelled, rescheduled, or modified due to weather. Cancellation decision will be made at least 90 minutes in advance. Check this FB event for last-minute notifications before heading out.
Directions: Meet at the Atwood-Higgins House, 189 Bound Brook Island Road, Wellfleet.
—Rt 6 to Pamet Point Road in Wellfleet. Look for brown Atwood-Higgins House sign.
—Pamet Point Road to the Y. Bear left onto Bound Brook Island Road.
—Take first right at small Atwood-Higgins House sign. Proceed up the hill to meeting point.
